Transhumanism

I want to live forever, pointlessly
(the adverb modifies both 'want' and 'live');
to taste the fruit of Eden's other tree,
of every gift this world has to give;
to fly beyond the world--beyond the stars--
to test the bounds of heaven's firmament!
To outlive angels, gods, and avatars;
than bronze be a more lasting monument;
I want to dance on endless telomeres;
join FM-2030, Gilgamesh,
and Kurzweil in their quest to conquer years,
to cast away the bonds of mortal flesh--
But then I think of Tennyson's Tithon,
"And after many a summer dies the swan."
