All the best

What leads a heart to love or break or harden?
It can't be chance -- it must be more than luck --
but you and I must cultivate our garden.

It once looked like a jail -- no chains or warden,
but still a haunting sense of being stuck --
those walls are melting that once seemed to harden.

You warned me that I ought to have my guard on,
to be prepared, to know just when to duck,
but all I did was get lost in this garden.

For all my mortal sins, I beg your pardon;
for all the Faustian bargains I have struck;
for all the times I let my own heart harden.

You taught me peace and how to beat a sword and
a spear into a plow, a pruning hook,
and other tools with which to grow a garden.

Like lovers wandering through the forest Arden
or outside Athens, led astray by Puck,
what tied our hearts? and will they break or harden?
Too soon to tell -- now we must tend our garden.
